Find Number: 7

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheAnother geocache found on my way home from work.

After literally barking up the wrong tree I realised that the GPSr co-ordinates may be slightly off.

Went to a nearby tree and found the geocache straight away.

Find Number: 6

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheThis geocache was a short distance from my work. I wanted to preserve my caching streak so I visited the site straight after work. The time was around 5.30pm. If I’d gotten there a few minutes later I would have needed a torch to find the cache.

Find Number: 5

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheI decided to find this cache on my weekly commute from home to Adelaide for work.

This was my first find in the dark. Arriving at the location at 6.50am, found the cache within five minutes, most of which was taken up working out which way to move to line up the GPSr co-ordinates.

Find Number: 4

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheThis was our last geocache find for today.

Once again, I can remember travelling on this ferry to get to the Marina for Swan Houseboats were my family hired a houseboat for a week over Christmas/New Year in the early 1970s. Like the ferry, Swan Houseboats are also gone.

We reported that the cache needs maintenance as the log is full. Unfortunately we didn’t have a small enough one to put into the cache.

Find Number: 3

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheThis was the second of our three finds for the day.

It was a little further out of Renmark than we thought it would be. As can be seen from our Image Gallery, one of the sentinels is missing. This was an easy find. We had passed this location previously when we returned from Mildura via Wentworth and the other side of the river.

If it weren’t for geocaching, I doubt if we would have realised this spot existed.

Find Number: 2

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheWe decided to go geocaching for a few hours this afternoon and this was the first location visited.

This was also the first cache which we found by using our Nuvi GPS. Luckily we ignored the directions given and just used the GPS function to locate ground zero. A quick look around and the cache was located.

The location has some memories for me as I stayed at Martin’s Bend for a week or two on a camping holiday as a child in 1971 or 1972.

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheThis geocache location is currently undergoing maintenance.

As we were passing by, we decided we would take some photos in and around ground zero as a momento of our visit. Whilst we were aware of the memorial, it was good to wander around and reflect on a truely remarkable Australian.

Find Number : 1

Visit the Geocaching Website for more details on this cacheThis is our first geocache find and the closest to our home. The day was a perfect winter’s day. The sun was shining and there was little to no wind. We arrived at the ground zero and had the place to ourselves. Once we decrypted the clue, finding the cache was relatively easy.

From the top of the lookout you have uninterrupted 360 degree views of the township of Berri.

In fact, in one of the images you can almost see our home.

What is Geocaching

Visit the Geocaching Website for more information on geocachingIt’s a high tech Easter egg hunt. Someone hides a container of inexpensive knickknacks - a cache. Then they post its latitude & longitude on the internet, and other people go hunting for it. If they find it they trade knickknacks and sign a log to record their visit.

The minimum you have to have to play is a handheld GPSr (Global Positioning Satellite receiver). Global Positioning Satellites are used in all forms of navigation today. They send signals that these receivers use to figure out where on the surface of the earth they are.
